Harbourside Apartment involved the complete transformation of a forgotten gem tucked within a 1910’s Inter-war period boutique building. This dilapidated apartment, untouched for years, yearned for a revival that celebrated its history and paid homage to the iconic Australian landscape surrounding it.
Upon walking through this apartment for the first time we were immediately struck by its incredible presence, despite its state of complete disrepair. The 3.4 metre-high coffered ceilings commanded attention, while the views of Sydney Harbour added a touch of magic. A true jewel, perched high amongst the treetops, that had all but lost its shine. Our vision was to infuse the apartment with old-world grandeur, restoring to it a splendour that had been neglected for decades. Chevron flooring, ornate pendants, and intricate moulding details were carefully incorporated to bring back the character that had been stripped over time. To pay tribute to the quintessential Australian landscape just outside the windows, we drew inspiration from the greens of nearby gum trees and the blues of Sydney Harbour below. The result was an awe-inspiring fusion—a grand European apartment with casual Australiana charm, perfectly in harmony with its building and enviable location. It is our hope that the renewed grandeur of this home would make its past custodians as proud as we are of the final outcome.
